Derian House Childrens Hospice

Fundraising

...I’d always wanted to do something really exciting, so when the chance came to do a sponsored parachute jump I was really up for it, and all my friends got involved too. It was fantastic and we raised lots of money for the hospice...

Friends are for always

After your family, your friends are probably the most important people in your life. They’re the people who see you through the bad times as well as the good, who share your sadness as well as your joy.

At Derian House we feel privileged to be counted as the friends of the many families for whom we have cared and supported since the hospice opened, as well as those to whom we continue to offer ongoing support. And we know there will be countless others in the future who will need us to be there for them, to provide, not only a high standard of specialist care for their child, but a reassuring framework of emotional support for them as a family.

As a charity, we in turn are fortunate to receive very committed support from our many friends in the community, whose generosity in backing our fundraising campaigns and Appeals never fails to amaze and delight us. And it’s a generosity for which we are unfailingly appreciative, not only in monetary terms, but also in terms of the time and skills which so many people donate to the hospice. Our Support Groups and volunteer fundraisers support us by staging a wide range of events of their own, which contribute greatly to our financial target year on year. We are encouraged and moved by the number of people who become ongoing supporters of Derian House, both young and old alike, and the very personal way in which they contribute.

But at the same time we can never allow ourselves to become complacent or take any of that support for granted. Year on year the cost of providing the special care the children need increases, and we have to raise more and more money in the same amount of time. And there is precious little help from central government for a children’s hospice such as Derian House. With less than 2% of our funding coming from official sources, the reality is that we are open 365 days a year and receive statutory funding for just four of those.

That is why we are asking for your help to meet our financial target this year and ensure the children continue to receive the very best we can offer. There are countless ways in which people can help us to raise the funds we need and we will always do our utmost to support them in their endeavours.

Whether it’s by supporting one of our campaigns, attending one of our special events, organising a fund-raising event of your own, making a bequest, becoming a volunteer, or simply placing one of our collection boxes in your local shop..whatever you would like to do - we will be there to give you the support you need to do it.
