Derian House Childrens Hospice
From a parent’s perspective...
Whilst all the children referred to Derian House are suffering from a terminal or life threatening illness, few situations are the same, and everyone has their own individual story to tell.
We asked one of our parents what Derian House had meant to her in terms of the care and support that they as a family had received. Her response speaks for itself:
"What is Derian House to me?
- It’s a haven where I know my son is loved, and he loves it as if he was at home.
- A warm therapy pool where he can relax at any time.
- His favourite light stimulation room.
- It restores my sleep and my sanity.
- It supports me with groups to talk to and ideas to swap with other parents.
- Music therapy; a wonderful experience and a new form of communication.
- Lovely gardens with a wheelchair swing.
- Wonderful relaxation with aromatherapy and other complementary therapies.
- Someone always there at the end of the phone for advice, help or just a listening ear.
- It also supports our daughter, enabling her to meet other siblings with the same problems – a brother who is seriously ill and takes all her parents’ time and attention.
- Derian is a house of support, laughter and fun, no matter how ill your child is. It’s always just there, and I hope it never goes away..."
