Volunteering In The Hospice

“for those with no clear idea of how much time together they have left, every second counts”...

Volunteering in the hospice

Indeed, the volunteer force within Derian House, as within so many charities provides a tremendous input to the infrastructure of the charity, without which the hospice would struggle to exist. All of this contributes to ensuring the hospice’s position as one of the most cost effective children’s hospices on a national scale.

Derian House has over 60 volunteers working within the hospice itself. They help on reception, in administration and the Appeals Office, assist in housekeeping, catering, gardening and maintenance, and act as drivers for the hospice.

All volunteers are interviewed and references taken up. Police checks are carried out as standard procedure. We provide training and induction for our volunteers, and all volunteers are invited to the hospice for an initial informal interview to introduce them to the hospice and the nature of its work.

In addition to general volunteer work within the hospice we have a number of specific roles relating to schools, promotional goods, legacies and co-ordination between our shops and Appeals Department for anyone wishing to become involved in a particular area of volunteering. Further details are available from the Appeals Team on 01257 271271.
