What can Derian House offer your child ?
Since the concept of establishing Derian House began, the vision has always been that it should be a happy place, a home from home, rather than simply an alternative to a hospital. That vision has certainly been realised.
We are currently supporting more than 200 families who have a child with a terminal or life threatening illness, and a further 200 receiving bereavement support. For them Derian House is the means by which they deal with the highs and lows of their child’s illness.
It may be that you are the parent of a child who would benefit from the care that Derian House can provide. If so, we can promise you and your child an approach to care and support which is as individual as you are. Our dedicated and highly trained Care Team provide each and every child with the best possible medical care which means they are offered the optimum care and support to cope with their illness, along with the opportunity to lead as full and normal a life as possible. Partnerships of care with each child and family are fostered through contact teams and key worker support systems, acknowledging and respecting parents as primary carers. Therefore during your stay at Derian House you will be offered as much or as little as you require. If it’s your wish to remain as primary carer during your stay, then of course we will acknowledge your role as such. However, should you decide to use the opportunity to spend a little more quality time with the rest of your family, you can do so, knowing that your child is in safe and competent hands.
