Welcome to Derian House

We care for more than 400 seriously ill babies, children and young people across the North West helping them make the most of every moment.

Support us

Care is free for families, but it will cost £6 million to run services at Derian House this year, and we rely on the generosity of our kind supporters to keep doing what we do.

Are you a Derian family?

Visit our brand new family website where you can find out more about Derian House, book onto sessions in our pool and cinema, and learn more about how we can help.

Family Stories

Jeffrey's story

Hello, my name is Sheryl and I want to tell you about the wonderful care your local children’s hospice has given to my family, and to ask if you will help to support more families like ours.

Our little boy Jeffrey has a rare and incurable genetic condition, known as Battens Disease, which causes seizures and progressively takes away a child’s ability to walk, talk, and see.

Jeffrey is eight years old now and is the sweetest boy – his bright brown eyes and cheeky smile could light up any room.

“During my visit to Derian House earlier this year, I realised there was so much I didn’t know about the work of our wonderful hospices." ✨When Lancashire health leader Sam Proffitt stepped down after three decades of NHS service, she knew exactly how she wanted to mark her retirement 🫶Instead of gifts, Sam asked for donations to Derian House a place that left a big impression on her when she visited this summer ☀️As Chief Executive of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB), Sam spent her career committed to improving health and care services across the region 👩‍⚕️And her selfless final act shows her continued dedication to helping those in need... to honour her wishes, her colleagues set up a fundraiser for Derian House without her knowledge, and surprised her with the amount of donations totaling £750 - as well as cards and flowers on her final day at the ICB 🤩Thank you so much to Sam for recognising the incredible work of her local children's hospice - we wish you the best in your retirement #ThankYouThursday 💚 ...
