Welcome to Derian House

We care for more than 400 seriously ill babies, children and young people across the North West helping them make the most of every moment.

Support us

Care is free for families, but it will cost £6 million to run services at Derian House this year, and we rely on the generosity of our kind supporters to keep doing what we do.

Are you a Derian family?

Family Stories

Kacey's story

Our son Kacey is pure joy – always smiling and dancing, with a cheeky charm that melts hearts.
But Kacey has been very poorly throughout his short life, and we have been told to say goodbye to him a heart-breaking nine times.
Kacey is now five, and thanks to a rare multi-organ transplant we never thought possible, we’ve been given the most precious Christmas gift: the freedom of time with our little boy.

Here's our second installment of another incredible #ThankYouThursday celebration! Thank you to everyone who chooses to support their local children's hospice - it means the world 😍💚 On World Book Day, Freddie dressed as Wigan Warriors stand-off Bevan French, wearing Holly's Kit to raise awareness for Derian House. He said at school "I’m going in Holly's Kit - I think raising awareness for Holly and all the other poorly children is much more important than a book. I want everyone to ask me why I'm dressed like this and I can then tell them all about Holly." What a legend! 💚 Speaking of Holly's Kit, the very talented Wicked Soles hand-painted this epic pair of Converse... complete with Wigan Warriors Danni! 💚 Our incredible ambassador - and one half of Stars & Cars Events - Colin Wilby, drove Lightning McQueen to a child's birthday party at the weekend in exchange of a donation to Derian. 💚 Over the weekend, Donna and a group of friends and family walked 18 miles from Blackpool Tower to Preston in memory of Kalea, raising almost £1,000 in the process.💚 Students at Leyland Methodist School raised an incredible £8,000 for us by taking on a bubble run.TY 🫶 ... “The provider was exceptional at treating people with kindness, empathy and compassion and in how they respected people’s privacy and dignity.” ✨Derian House Children’s Hospice has been rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following its latest inspection, recognising the charity’s high-quality, compassionate care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions 🫶Inspectors praised the hospice’s outstanding person-centred approach, describing the service as “exceptional” at putting children and families at the heart of care choices 🥰The report also praised facilities at the hospice, based in Chorley - which includes 11 bedrooms for children and young people, family apartments, and specialist Sunflower Suites where families can spend time with their child after death 🌻Inspectors said the hospice environment felt “more like a home than a hospital.” 💫During the unannounced inspection in September 2025, the CQC spoke to staff, leaders, trustees and families who use Derian House. They also looked at care records, policies and procedures, complaints, incidents, and watched staff at work 🙌 The CQC assesses services across five key areas: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Derian was rated Good in all areas, with particularly strong scores in caring and responsive 💚You can read the full report here ➡ www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-114396298 ... See MoreSee Less
