Welcome to Derian House

We care for more than 400 seriously ill babies, children and young people across the North West helping them make the most of every moment.

Support us

Care is free for families, but it will cost £6 million to run services at Derian House this year, and we rely on the generosity of our kind supporters to keep doing what we do.

Family Stories

Kacey's story

Our son Kacey is pure joy – always smiling and dancing, with a cheeky charm that melts hearts.
But Kacey has been very poorly throughout his short life, and we have been told to say goodbye to him a heart-breaking nine times.
Kacey is now five, and thanks to a rare multi-organ transplant we never thought possible, we’ve been given the most precious Christmas gift: the freedom of time with our little boy.

Earlier this month, we told you all about Derian teen Annie Pickup, who was offered the chance to make her wish of becoming an ice cream lady come true, but was left disappointed and heartbroken when the experience was cancelled at the last minute🍦Annie’s story went viral - shared 4,700 times on Facebook – and the teen received hundreds of offers of support from ice cream sellers across the country, culminating in a day of scooping up smiles to the people of Penwortham thanks to Raheim at NorthWest Whippy 😍On Tuesday, during #ChildrensHospiceWeek, Annie ticked another dream off her list as ITV News followed her on a special visit to Notarianni Ices Blackpool 🎥After hearing Annie's story, the popular ice cream shop invited her for a behind-the-scenes tour and the chance to serve even more ice cream to even more customers ✨The visit was made even more special with the team from ITV there to film the day, including Annie's very first TV interview 🫶As Annie continues to live out her ice cream dream, she's also using it to raise money for Derian House, helping support other children and families like her own, raising a whopping £923 during her first ice cream van experience 👏She'll be back serving and fundraising once again at Preston Flag Market next Saturday 27th June - thank you so much Annie, you're FAB! #ThankYouThursday | Together for Short Lives | Hospice UK | #CHW 💚 ... When our community ambassador - and Darwen Vale High School legend - Wayne Hartley set out on his swansong fundraiser for Derian House before retiring this summer, there was absolutely nothing standing in his way... 💪...as he and a team of 14 staff past and present aimed to complete the National Three Peaks Challenge in just 24 hours ⛰That was, until a broken down minibus halted their attempt after the successful summitting of both Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike! 😱Regardless of the team's premature end to their challenge, they still managed to have lots of fun, and collectively raise an incredible £3,000 for their local children's hospice 👏Over the past 16 years, maths teacher Wayne has helped pupils to raise more than £100,000 for us with the school's annual army-style circuit training fundraiser, which grew into a much-loved Darwen Vale tradition ✨Thank you so much Wayne - your dedication to Derian House is nothing short of#ThankYouThursdayhanTogether for Short LivesforHospice UKes #ChildrensHospiceWeekren#CHWpiceWeek | #CHW 💚 ... On the first day of #ChildrensHospiceWeek, children's hospice nurse at Helen & Douglas House - and co-founder of charity CHAT UK - set off on a mega mission with her two best friends Emilie and Zoe to raise vital funds and awareness for children's hospices nationwide ✨Throughout the course of the week, the terrific trio has summitted the biggest peaks of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales for their 'Steps of Love' appeal... ⛰️...but not before they popped by Derian House, a place that Francesca first visited when she cycled to each of the UK's 53 hospices for children during her inaugural CHAT UK challenge back in 2022 🚴‍♀️Francesca's best friend's son, Henry, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and died just four months before the challenge began. Henry continues to inspire and strengthen Francesca's determination to advocate for children's hospice care - with this year's challenge specifically aiming to honour those children that we've lost 💫A huge thanks to the trio for kicking off our #CHW celebrations early, and being SO complimentary of the team and our facilities here at Derian House. We hope you've had an incredible week so far (and enjoyed your trip to Tebay Services based off our recommendation!) 😆Good luck with the rest of your challenge, ladies! #ThankYouThursday | #StepsOfLove | Together for Short Lives | Hospice UK 💚 ...
