Meet The Trustees

Derian House Trustees offer guidance and support to the Senior Management Team through regular sub-committee meetings and bi-monthly Board meetings. Our Trustees are all volunteers and receive no financial reward for the significant amount of time they give to the charity.  Offering a wide range of skills to support the diverse nature of a hospice the Trustees ensure we maintain our culture, values and governance alongside providing the very best care and support to those who need our services.

How long have you been a trustee at Derian House?

Since September 2018.

Why did you get involved?

Born and bred in Chorley, I’ve been aware of Derian House and the good work of the charity for as long as I can remember. Having done a number of executive roles, I wanted to utilise my experience and skills to give something back, but also to learn something new too.

What does your role as a trustee entail?

For me, it’s about making sure that the organisation is being managed as it should be through being supportive and challenging as necessary. It’s my job to make sure we’re achieving our objectives.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to either be a footballer or work in an office.

What makes you feel proud to be a trustee at Derian House?

Everything we achieve at Derian – what the charity provides and the difference and impact it has on people’s lives. That makes me proud to be involved.

What do you hope to achieve in your tenure as a trustee?

I’d like to put Derian on a sustainable footing so we’re here for another 25 years.

What would you say to anyone considering becoming a trustee?

Do your research and don’t go into it lightly. It’s a challenging role and you have to balance time and commitment, but it’s a very rewarding role to play and shows you different aspects of life.

Tell us a moment at Derian that has made you laugh or smile.

One of our volunteers Gill trundles round with a tea trolley and every time I’m in she makes me a lovely cup of tea and offers me cake. That always makes me smile.
