Meet Wayne Hartley...
Wayne is a teacher at Darwen Vale High School, and over the last decade they have made close ties with Derian House and currently raised over £32,000 for us.
The fundraising culminates each year with a gruelling sponsored all-day, non-stop, army style circuit training event in which only the fittest staff and pupils can participate (after months of preparation training).
Over the years Wayne has involved hundreds of young people in charity work, particularly with Derian House, promoting the importance of serving your community. He has arranged a great number of visits to us where his pupils see first-hand the great work we do and why it is so important to continue raising funds for the hospice.
Obviously many of these young people have now grown up and continue to promote the importance of charity and supporting their communities. One of these is our own Community Ambassador, Ryan Walmsley, who is an ex-pupil of Darwen Vale and started his relationship with us as a fund raiser at the school.
